Poppies are glorious in their colour but do not survive long in my garden which is in a dry and tough bush environment. I love the flowers but also the beautiful forms once the flower is spent. This was a challenging subject because of the apparent bleached and colourless nature of the poppy seed head and leaf.
After considerable time observing the specimen, the colours and beauty of this small dried plant began to tell its own story on the paper. Painted in watercolour using mainly dry brush, pencil was also used to help enhance some of the very fine detail on the leaf.
